What is a Co-op and why should you become a member?
A cooperative is an organization that is owned and controlled by the people who use its products, supplies or services for their mutual benefit. Although cooperatives vary in type and membership size, all are formed to meet the specific objectives of their members, and are structured to adapt to members' changing needs. Self-reliance and self-help are the hallmarks of cooperatives. Cooperatives are useful for promoting the interests of the less powerful members of society. Over the years, farmers, producers, workers, and consumers have found that they can accomplish more collectively than they could individually.
